For this game I wanted the player to experience fast paced gameplay combined with a unique mechanic. The game was inspired by Neon White, but I made it stand out in 5 different ways:
- Elemental obstacles that can only be overcome by an opposing element.
- Combining cards to gain a unique card.
- Reversing your card deck.
- Bonus endings to levels, allowing for harder routes to the end.
- Certain levels have multiple solutions and routes to get to the goal.
The game has a minimalistic style so everything is clear and can be observed in one look. The mechanics are taught through gameplay and each level expands on a concept more and more. This way the player slowly becomes better over time and retrying levels is super fast so the player doesn't feel like they are wasting time.
I also made a debugging system that can be used in-game by pressing F1.
The game was regularly play tested which helped a ton. Many things changed over time in order to improve the gameplay experience.
