The two main mechanics are UV light and using the gun as a tool instead of a weapon.

UV light shows the player marks on the walls and floor that show clues as to what the direction is the player should go, or what the next trap could be that the player can fall into. It’s also used to do some environmental story telling.

The gun is used as a tool more than a weapon. For example shooting a window so you can climb through or shooting the keypad to a door in order to short circuit it open. I intentionally gave the player a very limited amount of bullets so that shooting anything has a consequence.

The game also uses heavy saturation and a disorienting view to amplify the horror elements. For example the saturation makes the gore look more gross and fleshy, amplifying the horror element.
